IUE’S HIGH ALTITUDE BALLOON LANDED ONTO ‘DEMIRKOPRU’ DAM
The high altitude balloon, developed and released into the sky by students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) for July 15th Martyrs of Democracy, has been found. Students already started their new researches with the data obtained. Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, stated that they wanted to honor the memory of the July 15th Martyrs of Democracy in the light of science. Demirtaş said, “They’ve done so much to protect this country at the risk of their own lives. And we, too, with our students, do everything in our power for this country in order to raise our flag higher.”
The high altitude balloon, which was released into the sky with a capsule containing the Turkish Flag and the names of 249 martyrs of Democracy on “July 15th Commemoration of Victory of Democracy and the Martyrs, National Unity Day” with the attendance of Erol Ayyıldız, Governor of Izmir, Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. Can Muğan, IUE Rector, and students of IUE Ecospace Group, has reached an altitude of 20 thousand meters. Students of IUE Ecospace Group, who tracked the whole journey with GSP, has found the capsule at Demirköprü Dam in Manisa.
‘Data under observation’
President Demirtaş reminded that the Ecospace Group, consisting of the students of IUE Department of Aerospace Engineering has outdone themselves for the project. “Experiment tools, software, energy consumption, tracking device and camera, and the computer that recorded pressure, heat and some other meteorological information are being analyzed. Important data has been obtained during this process that we are progressing towards Izmir Economics Satellite. This data will restructure the future studies of our students. And the capsule containing the names of the martyrs is being exhibited at Faculty of Engineering. We will honor the memory of martyrs in the light of science eternally,” said the President.
‘IUE satellite to be launched by 2020’
President Ekrem Demirtaş stated that they would be sending a satellite of Izmir University of Economics into the orbit by 2020 the latest. President Demirtaş stated the following:
“We will not use other countries’ satellites in order to receive and send information. Students of Department of Aerospace Engineering will do everything in their power to enable this country to develop its own satellite. Information such as direction, altitude, downward trend to be used in studies regarding high altitude balloon has started to be processed already. Also, tubes, prepared by IUE Department of Biomedical Engineering and IUE Department of Genetics and Bioengineering, containing E-coli bacteria and the seeds of Arabidopsis were placed into the capsule in the balloon. A thorough analysis of the seeds and the bacteria also has started.”
